Teacher’s Day 2020: Kodecoon Students’ Secret Appreciation Project

4 September 2020 was a special day for us as we celebrate the selfless service, dedication, commitment and the service of our beloved teachers.

Coming to the last quarter of the year 2020, the pandemic situation caused the world to be in a flux. The entire education scene changed – we shifted to full home-based learning (HBL) in early April for close to a month with all preschools, MOE kindergartens and student care centres to suspend their general services during the period.
With this, educators have had to play new roles. We experienced it first-hand at Kodecoon Academy when our teachers got on long phone calls with parents to guide them through the installation process of Zoom, worked hard at coming up with standard operating procedures to share with the team and parents on how we can ensure privacy of our students, and also checking in with our parents and students regularly to see how they are adjusting to home-based learning.

Our teaching team also organised online webinars to discuss topics like cyber wellness and tips to juggle work and family during this period to provide our parent community with resources and the support they might need.

This is why we secretly worked together with our parents and students to come up with this secret appreciation project to surprise our teaching team. Read on to see what our students have to say – Kodecoon teachers, if you are reading this article, prepare a tissue box beside you.

What our Kodecooners want to say to our teachers…

“My favourite fun moment was during a session when we created a chit chat app using MIT inventor for our class. it was fun and we could communicate to one another. there was a lot of fun and we went kind of crazy and over excited during the session when testing the app together.

“Thanks for helping me to get exposed to coding. I really enjoy your training session and look forward for more of your guidance in future.”

brb, I ran out of tissues

Let me end this loving post off with a creative graphic done by one of our students.

Also, a big thanks to all our very supportive students and parents. We always say, we will not be where we are today without you all. Your love and support for us really motivate and inspire us to continue innovating and striving for the best!
